Sciatica Treatment – The Latest Sciatica Treatment And Therapy That Can Help Start You On Your Way To Living Pain Free

Learn About Sciatica Treatment

So just what is sciatica? Sciatica treatment has an evolving history, it is mostly described as a compression of spinal roots caused by stenosis or disc herniation and pain that travels below the knee. If that is the location of the problem, patients will often experience relief from traditional sciatic nerve pain treatment. Some researchers began to consider other possible theories for sciatic treatment based on the continued pain of many patients. The results were described as “peripheral nerve entrapment”. The nerve could be trapped between the hamstrings, attached to the hamstring and the adjacent Adductor Magnus, at the Superior Gammelus, or at the Piriformis (Piriformis Syndrome, where pain stops above the knee).

Different Approaches to Sciatica Treatment

It is important to recognize that there are many fields of medicine, and look at sciatica pain treatment and piriformis syndrome treatment through the lens of their respective discipline. Consider the differences in the way a Chiropractor, a Medical Doctor, an Acupuncturist, a Massage Therapist, and a Physical Therapist approach piriformis syndrome treatment and sciatica treatment. Each specialist will design therapy based on their preferred discipline; they all have established plans for treating pain. The Chiropractor seeks to align the vertebrae, releasing the nerve entrapment. Some Chiropractors will combine this with Manual Therapies, like Active Release Technique (ART), or with the assistance of a Massage Therapist trained in injury protocols in order to locate the site of nerve entrapment in soft tissues. Some do not use any form of therapy for the soft tissues.

A Medical Doctor is likely to use pharmaceuticals to relieve the pain and will use other procedures they are trained in, like spinal injections. More doctors have been combining disciplines; many use Medical Acupuncture for treating pain. Again, it depends on the background of the doctor and the specialists they prefer to use when referring patients. Some believe in surgery as a primary option. Others refer to a surgeon only as a last resort. Acupuncturists also tend to specialize, but many will combine needles with patient-specific herbal medicine tea, moxibustion, and movement therapy (tai chi) to create the environment that enables the body to heal itself. Physical Therapists vary widely in expertise and competence. They aim to improve range of motion and quality of motion.

Rolfers manually correct underlying holding patterns and movement patterns that address areas of restriction throughout the entire body. In 10 sessions, they aim to restore optimum function and alignment of each segment of the body from the feet up to the neck. Sciatic nerve pain treatment is integrated into a larger plan to restore the alignment of the entire body. When seeking sciatica treatment, it is good to know that there are multiple causes, and many options.
